pyramidsandelephants: A child wearing a fluffy hat with ears (Warm in Winter)
I hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating whichever mid-winter festival they choose to - and a nice Wednesday if they didn't.

I have such a haul of household goodies for my new flat from my family, I'm now super excited to move in just over a week. My parents got us a bedframe, my grandparents got us sofa and Ollie's parents got us a sofa - this we already knew because we'd picked them out. One thing I'm really looking forward to is learning to cook, and my brother Riley got me this amazing kitchen set with cutlery, a knife set, a whisk, tongs, vegetable peeler, can opener, hand grater, corkscrew, saucepans, frying pans, a collection of baking trays, and even egg cups and measuring jugs. He also got me some cookbooks. My older brother Ashley and his girlfriend got us some bedding sets, duvets, pillows, blankets and cushions. My younger brother got us a dining set. I also got net curtains and curtains, a toaster and a kettle, some lightbulbs and a toilet plunger.

Ollie says he also got gifted the nightstands we'd looked at, the stools we'd seen for the kitchen/breakfast bar and a coffee table.

I got some non-household stuff too, just little things from my parents like a really nice boxset of the Anne Of Green Gables books, some DVDs and CDs.

I'm sure there's still a ton of stuff we need to get but my head is just bursting right now. Most of it we probably won't realise we need until we're in the flat and living there. We'll probably also end up with a bunch of doubles of things because we both have them. Dad's taking us shopping the day we move in to get a microwave, some chests of drawers and a wardrobe... and to stop us buying about everything in Ikea!

I think maybe I need to google and find a checklist and start marking things off

I am now completely moved out of my old houseshare in Exeter, leavng behind the last of my student life. Dad came down with a van and we've moved all the things that need to go into the new flat into the new flat. There's not a whole lot of it but it's there. Mostly just kitchen stuff, odds of cockery and cutlery, some non-perishable food and some clothes, some towels, bedding etc.

Ollie and I picked up the keys to our flat last week but we both wanted to spend Christmas with our families, so he's flown back to Northern Ireland, and I'm back here in Gloucester with my family. It's probably going to be our last big family Christmas; Mum, Dad, me, Riley (twin brother), Ashley (older brother - 26) and his girlfriend Lisa, and Connor (younger brother - 20).

I miss Riley like crazy when we're not together. We'd never been apart until I moved down to Devon for university at 20 (I took a couple of years out after A-Levels to work and get money and figure out what I wanted to do) and he stayed in Gloucester. I'm definitely looking forward to reconnecting with him.

And it's always fun doing stuff with my dad. He's one of my best friends and I've always been a Daddy's girl, and being the only girl in the family he adores me too! I've totally inherited his taste in music so we were driving up motorway singing along to Green Day. He seriously loves them and I've always been really surprised none of us kids are called Billie Joe!

Most of the relatives are getting me house-related things for Christmas, although I don't know completely what. A list was sent around of what we needed in November time. I know my mum & dad have got us a bedframe, his mum & dad have got us a mattress and my grandparents have got us a sofa. There's a fridge freezer went in earlier that dad got second-hand. I'm excited to see who else has got us what.

But for now, it's family time, far too much food, far too much alcohol and cheesy Christmas TV. And I can't wait!

Hi, I'm Iris and this is my first post at my shiny new blog.

I'm equal parts excited and terrified by this, but I can't wait to see where it goes. I'm not new to journalling or diary keeping, I've done that since I was a pre-teen but I'm used to online activities being reposting and liking on Tumblr. I'm looking forward to meeting lots of new people from all walks of life and maybe making some new friends

All the pertinent information about me is in my profile so I'm not going to repeat it when you can just click and read it there. And I don't want to write some long-winded introduction or 'about me' because that feels weird and I'd rather get to know people, and them get to know me, organically rather than some huge info dump

Instead, I'm going to share some random facts about me because I think those are interesting, and they've always been a fun ice-breaker activity

* I have a fraternal twin brother called Riley. I'm 6 minutes older.
* I am weirdly obsessed with death. I even thought about a career as a funeral director.
* I'm terrified of the dark and sleep with a night light. I love falling asleep to the sound of white noise.
* I'm allergic to bees
* I love ramen noodles and I can eat them all day
* I played a LOT of sports as a child. My three main sports were tennis, football and netball.
* I’m a list maker. I have lists everywhere and for everything
* I met my boyfriend during my placement year at university, at a dig in South Dakota
* I love anything and everything related to Starbucks.
* If glitter and/or sparkles were considered a colour, they'd be my favourite
* I can never say to no to fresh chocolate chip cookies
* My middle name is Skye
* I’m notorious for leaving half drunk drinks in random places around the house
* I still love to play with lego
* I actually DO sometimes wish my life was a musical.
